Every good NFL team has a glue guy, someone who might not be the star or headline name,

but plays an integral part to the team.

For Pittsburgh, that's strong safety to Sean Elliott,

and the Steelers just lost him for a little while,

maybe longer. Elliot landed on injured reserve and will miss at least the next four games.

That may be better than initial media report suggested, but he's still going to miss an

important stretch of action for the team.

Pittsburgh quickly jumped on a potential replacement trading for the Patriots Kyle Dugger,

but how effectively he jumps on the moving train remains to be seen.

Elliot suffered that knee injury in Sunday night's game against the Green Bay Packers, and without him, the difference was notable.

That was felt early in the season when Elliott missed two games with an MCL spring, and was

felt again once Elliott exited in the second half. Without him, Pittsburgh's yards per carry

allowed doubled in Green Bay's run success increased by 30%. The defense collapsed, and communication issues began rearing its ugly head again.

Elliot plays with the right demeanor, fast physical with max effort.

Now Pittsburgh will go through potentially the next couple weeks, if not longer, without him.

Gibral-Peppers figures to see extra reps and is caught from a similar claw,

but he's simply not the same caliber of player as Elliot. It's a critical loss for a defense

already reeling in one that has to face the Colts this weekend, where running back Jonathan Taylor

holds the NFL's rushing Triple Crown, leaving in carries, yards, and touchdowns. That could make

for a long day, Sunday, and if the Steelers trend continues, an even longer season. Be sure
