This week I checked my credit card bill, normally a pretty boring process in my life,

and I see a number that astonishes me in its size and gravity.

And so the first thing I think is, how much DoorDash is it possible to eat in one month?

Have I hit some new level of depravity?

But then I go through the statement and I find a charge that is from the heating and plumbing company that I used to use

when I lived in the home of Kara Swisher. Caras Wisher, of course, the iconic technology journalist,

friend and mentor, originator of the iconic technology journalist, friend, and mentor,

originator of the very podcast feed that we're on today, Kevin. And former landlord of Casey Newton.

And when I investigated, it turned out that Kara Swisher had charged my credit card for $18,000.

For what? What costs $18,000? I don't know what is going on, but it costs $18,000. For what? What costs $18,000?

And until I made a few phone calls yesterday, that was going to be my problem.

So here's what I want to say to the people of America.

You need to watch these landlords.

You might think that you're out from underneath their thumb, but they will still

come for you and they will put $18,000 on your credit card if you do not watch them. Now, this is

slightly terrifying to me, the idea that Kara has access to your credit card in some way, shape, or

form. Well, and I should say, basically it was on file with the heating and plumbing company.
