Summary

We nearly called this the 'ILL PODCAST' because we're all a bit under the weather. However, that's not very enticing is it, and not producing a show was never an option. So Catherine and David (get well soon, Matt) came together to talk about the extraordinarily emotional scenes at Laver Cup, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in tears. They also discussed the results of the week, how important they are, and reviewed the week's Tour events, and the Davis Cup group stages from the week before.

  • For Friends of The Tennis Podcast, three new podcasts (David's Diary, our US Open 2022 review and a Q & A podcast with listeners) are now available, along with another 20 others. Become a Friend to access those bonus podcasts and to support The Tennis Podcast generally.
  • Sign up to receive our weekly Newsletter (and daily at Slams), which features Matt's Stat (normally - this week it will be David's cobbled together nonsense) and our predictions.

Well, thank you very much, Munchy, for introducing this edition of the tennis podcast, Catherine and myself,

David, are here. We kind of would like you to join us, Munchy, if you wouldn't mind, to help us with

0:40.2

the podcast because we haven't got Matt for a start. He's got Covid. He's a million bed for five

0:46.9

days. Catherine's got a sore throat and she sounds like this. I fear Munchy, you will today find

0:55.6

this podcast all too comparable, but we're here. I'm going to do our best, despite the fact that David

1:04.1

literally has a numb face. Yes, I've been to the dentist and I can't quite make my mouth

1:11.0

work normally. Those are our excuses that we thought we'd get out the way early on here,

1:18.4

but we do have lots of tennis to talk about and obviously it's been an incredible week

1:23.2

in the tennis world, an incredible couple of weeks, really, since the US Open, hasn't it? So we

1:28.2

thought we'd better do it somehow. So here we are. Just to say if you'd like to introduce a show

1:38.4

yourself, like Munchy, you can do that by becoming a friend of the tennis podcast at the intro level.

1:44.4

Many of you have done and hugely appreciate all the support and as friends of the tennis podcast,

1:50.0

you'll get access to now more than 20 shows, most of which in which we sound like our actual

selves and most recently in a Q&A, which I can't enjoy doing, Catherine, when we were in New York

2:02.8

in slightly different times. Let's be honest, David, better times. Yes, much better times.

2:13.1

I can tell you, though, Catherine, since we last spoke and this is good news, we've drawn the winner

2:19.2

for the Australian Open competition. So we have a winner for that incredible AO travel package. Would

2:25.8

you like to know who's won? I would, yes. I'm probably warning to the Whittaker family right now,

2:34.1

from whom I really got it in the neck for banning them from entering this competition.
