From KQED and PRX, you've crossed over to Spoot. A friend whom I know is going through an extremely difficult time, a dire time.

Recently losing her partner of half a century,

she asked me, she asked me to please pray for her.

To pray for her and my reflex I want to tell her that I've lost my faith

that I don't know how to pray anymore.

Instead I tell her, yes, of course I will pray for her.

And for him. And so later that evening I bow my head, I close my eyes and I stop because

I can't remember what to do next. I feel like an interloper, an imposter wearing dirty shoes on

someone else's clean floor but I know that this this isn't

about me or my beliefs or my bullshit this is about letting a woman know that she is heard, that she is felt,

that she is loved that her defining relationship was of supreme importance and that its passing will be felt, not

just by her, but by a community that loves them both.

So I ask these things for her and it is so freeing to not

have to define whom I ask, to just ask for finality, for

acceptance, for serenity, I ask this, for her and it's so strange that for a moment for such a rare moment that those things were granted to me. Spook starts now.
