The sudden Taylor feud came about in post-Civil War, Texas during the early days of reconstruction.

On one side, you had the Taylor clan, led by Patriarchs

Creed and little brother Pitkin Taylor. Their people first came to Texas in the 1820s and

settled about 100 miles south to Austin in what's now DeWitt County. Both Creed and Pitkin would see

action during the war with Mexico, as well as serving with the Texas

Rangers under famed Captain John Coffey Hayes. And years later, they, along with several members

of their extended family, would also enlist with the Confederate Army. Say what you will about

the tailors of DeWitt County, but they were most definitely a fight in stock. Hell truth be told, even after Lee's

surrender and the official end of the Civil War, many of them continued to fight. Like I said,

this was during reconstruction, and I guess they didn't much like their home turf being overrun by

Yankees. Remember, Texas was never successfully invaded during the Civil War, at least not really.

Sure, there was a union blockade in the Gulf, and Galveston was occupied for a time, but by the war's

end, only El Paso and Brassus Island remained under federal control. This all changed in May

of 1865 when U.S. troops began entering the state unopposed.

What followed in the eyes of many, including the tailors of DeWitt County, was akin to a foreign
