live from the United States where the law is far too often the crime.

This is hell and when it comes to supposedly protecting the public

from terrorism and violent extremism law enforcement can often end up

violating the legal rights of citizens who have not nor have they ever

committed any crime at all.

With so much backlash to the events of January 6th at the U.S. Capitol, many liberals and those

on the left have called for a much needed and long awaited crackdown against white supremacy and rightfully so.

But when giving expanded powers to law enforcement, those powers can often be turned against those who

actually oppose white supremacy.

One of the ways in which law enforcement has done that of light is through something called

the countering violent extremism model which has been a tool of law

enforcement dating back at least to the Obama administration when it

targeted Muslims. That same model was continued under the Trump administration when it was used against members of the Black Lives Matter movement

And it continues today under the Biden administration which is supposedly

Aiming it at white supremacist, but it still can be used against whoever has gained the attention of law enforcement.

In other words, the same tools used in reaction against those involved in January 6th can quickly be turned on those who are in direct opposition of the far

rates attempts to overthrow an election. In a few minutes we'll speak with

After the January 6th attack, federal surveillance programs expanded to counter white supremacist

violence have made black and brown communities their main target.
