Summary

Major cases coming before the Supreme Court will force the justices to consider the extent of President Donald Trump’s power. Today, the high court will hear oral arguments in Trump v. Slaughter, which will determine whether a president has the authority to reshape independent federal agencies. And over the weekend, the justices indicated that they would take up the landmark case on birthright citizenship. Playbook’s Jack Blanchard and White House reporter Megan Messerly walk through what to know ahead of the day’s proceedings, plus what Trump said about the Ukraine peace negotiations.

I'm doing fantastic. So great to be back, Jack. It is terrific to have you on an auspicious day because Donald Trump will have one eye on the Supreme Court this morning, Megan. Yes. economy. And Trump says,

1:45.3

no, you must be joking. I'm the elected person. I got a big mandate in November. I get to decide

1:49.4

who sits on this. Just try and stop me. And the Supreme Court will hear arguments either way today to

1:55.4

decide whether they should. He'll be watching closely, right? He really cares about this stuff.

again, going back to those early days of the second Trump presidency, this is really what the effort

2:08.3

to remake Washington is all about, right? The president and his advisors have long expressed concern

that he is the elected leader of the United States and he should be able
