Another Supreme Court term has come to a close.

This year, the court delivered major decisions on reproductive freedom, voting rights,

free speech, women's rights, gun rights, and presidential immunity, among other decisions.

The ACLU was involved in cases throughout the term and were coming out somewhere in the

middle this term. Some losses, some wins. We're going to

discuss it all. Here to help us reconcile the decisions from this Supreme Court term is

returning favorite, David Cole, the ACLU's National Legal Director.

David, welcome back to Out Liberty.

So, David, this term stakes were as high as we've seen over the past few years.

And as we know, there still remains a 6.3 conservative

majority. The ongoing theme of this court is seemingly this question of, is the court becoming

more and more purely political? How do you answer that question based on the decisions that we've seen

this term? Well, I'm not sure it's becoming more and more political, but it is certainly

becoming more and more aggressive in its exercise of the power of the majority, by which I mean

the six justices who are appointed by Republicans,

very conservative, and now have a very comfortable majority, but they've used that power

to really remake the law in significant areas. In other areas, they're content to be minimalist, content to decide cases

...
