We're with Times reporter Harriet Alexander, and she's off on a curious reporting trip.

It's Tuesday morning at 9.43 a.m.

And I am driving through eastern Tennessee through the Blue Ridge

Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. And I am on my way to a small place called

Elizabethton. It's a town of about 14,000 people. It's pretty remote and pretty rural. But despite that,

I am going to talk to some students and their teachers because they are really up to something

that I think is quite remarkable.
