0:00.0 | Hi there. This is Terrence Siegel, a producer on the story. So every weekend, we raid the story archives for an episode that you might have missed that we think you'd love. |
0:18.5 | This week, I'm picking an excellent story that we did back in December about how AI could be used to ban teens from social media. |
0:27.6 | Enjoy. |
0:32.0 | From The Times and the Sunday Times, this is the story. |
0:41.5 | I'm Manvim Rana. |
0:45.4 | So what you do is you sit in front of their app. |
0:51.4 | There's a little frame on screen. So it's a little bit like, you know, at the beach, you get |

1:01.4 | side. |
1:05.2 | In an office, deep in London's Financial Centre, our features writer, Helen Rumbullough, was carrying out a rather |

1:29.9 | computer has a good read on your face. And then literally, in a hundredth of a second, like, |
1:35.4 | immediately the AI spits out what it thinks your age is. |
1:41.8 | Helen was trying out a whizzy new bit of tech, which claims it can accurately determine your age by using AI to examine your face. |
1:52.0 | And it's already being used by some of the world's most influential platforms, from Instagram to only fans. |
2:00.5 | With all AI, what's astonishing is the speed. |
2:04.2 | But I think with this one, it feels especially strange |
2:07.8 | because we imagine that we are estimating someone's age. |
2:12.0 | So that kind of thing where you're kind of like sizing someone up |
2:14.5 | and looking at the crow's feet. |
2:16.3 | But it does it. |
