Summary

What if the key to success and happiness you imagine is totally wrong? Maybe you think success is to be chased and happiness will happen when you finally arrive at the destination you set out for years ago.

Matthew McConaughey, the Academy-Award winning actor and New York Times bestselling author of the incredible book about his approach to life, Greenlights, is sharing his wisdom, revelations, and lessons on what’s been true for him in the pursuit of happiness and levels of success most only dream of.

Achieving success and happiness in your life requires you to learn how to hold competing ideas at the same time. It’s knowing when to go all in and go hard for what you envision and what gives you joy and energy. It’s also knowing when to step back and appreciate where you are on your journey because those moments matter and they keep you grounded.

Matthew has created a free virtual event, The Art of Livin, to help others get the results they’re looking for in pursuit of happiness and success. In this conversation he reveals to Tom why the vision he often chased was rarely what he thought it would be when he started the pursuit.

back for another episode, Matthew McConaughey. He has one of the most stellar careers in Hollywood

0:13.2

and recently rock the world with his debut New York Times bestselling book, Green Lights,

0:19.9

which is amazing, by the way, from his memorable

0:22.6

speech at the Oscars to being awarded philanthropists of the year, Matthew has many lessons to

0:27.3

share on what achieving success actually looks like. You think it's going to look like,

0:32.3

but what it's actually like. And in this episode, Matthew shares why most people are focused on the wrong things and getting lost, chasing success.

0:42.5

We also talk about how his pursuit of success and living with purpose led to what he calls the art of living and his greatest satisfaction.

0:52.3

Matthew also breaks down why he's the wolf, the renegade, and the

0:56.4

creator, and what that means for each and every one of us. If you enjoy this episode, please

make sure to rate and review the podcast. It really is the best way to support us so that we can

get the show out to more people just like you trying to reach their full potential and become

legendary. I'm Tom Bill you and welcome

1:12.7

to Impact Theory. You have been successful by virtually any metric that a human being can be

1:21.0

successful. Fame, wealth, longevity of career, family, you seem joyful. But I have found that when most people go after

1:31.1

success, they end up getting lost somewhere. So I'm curious, what do you think it is that people

1:35.3

get wrong about success is that they don't have the right definition of it or they pursue it in

1:40.0

the wrong way? Like, how is it that so many people get lost? I think probably because the destination isn't what they thought it was going to be. I think it very rarely is. Even in things that I've succeeded in that have fulfilled me, the headline that I chased was always different than I thought it was going to be once I got there. Oh, once I get there, it's going to feel like this and it's going to mean this. It's going to be some sort of ta-da moment. Oh, I did it, which is never true.

2:06.7

Because we can honestly update our iOS for what we call happiness for every peak we seem to get to the top of where

2:13.3

joy is more of, I believe, the doing what you're fashion to do and enjoying the process.

2:20.7

And I've got, thankfully, some proof in my life that I got more results when I got obsessed

2:28.2

with the process than I did when I was chasing the results.
