0:00.0 | Let's just start off. Everyone needs to go practice B.G. I know. I actually am. I was shocked by... Every team. Just go practice. Yeah. What's happening, y'all? Welcome back to Sports Are Fun. I'm your host, Kelly O'Hara. I'm the personality hire BJ Beckwith. And I'm Grady Diaz, aka Midrange Mommy. Hey, Grady's back. We're back. We're back. You guys, I feel like everybody had big weekends. Huge. Dead. Crazy. Yeah. Who's tired? Are you to nap? I can keep going. Oh, my God. The youth. You have something special. |
0:37.8 | Only one of us swam across Lake Tahoe. That is true. So you want to tell us about that? Sure. It was literally the most fun day ever. Who did your team consist of? It had a little U.S. Women's National Team again. So it was me, Sam U.S., Brianna Cope. and then Kyle, Brian, David were our three guys. |
0:37.2 | So we were three girls, Sam U.S., Brianna Cope, and then Kyle, Brian, David were our three guys. So we were three girls, three guys. And we almost didn't get to race because our boat was late. And the way that the race works, yeah. So we're driving over there. And Sam's like, you know, I kind of felt weird telling people that we were doing this. Because like, what happens if, you know, something happens? |
1:11.6 | And like our boat breaks down or like we don't make it to the race, whatever. I was like, that's not going to have it. Like whether or even the chances. Sure enough. We literally almost didn't get to race. So the way it works is everybody swims 30 minute legs. Okay. Every person. and then 10 minute legs after that. |
1:08.8 | The first person starts on the beach |
1:10.6 | and the boat is supposed to be outside of the buoys. every six every person and then 10 minute legs after that the first person starts on the beach |
1:28.6 | and the boat is supposed to be outside of the the the buoys on like the horse and the swimmer |
1:34.5 | and the boat have to find each other and then take off like together basically after you've passed |
1:39.5 | because I'm sure you start in a big clump correct yeah so that is it's difficult like you have to |
1:44.0 | be able to like identify your swimmer you need to the swim's difficult. Like you have to be able to like identify your |
1:45.2 | swimmer. You need to, the swimmer needs to be good enough to be able to like pick out their |
1:48.1 | boat. But, um, we didn't have to worry about that because we were late. So our lead off swimmer, |
1:56.5 | Kyle, who was our captain, had to, we were supposed to get picked up at seven it was like 710 715 our |
2:04.4 | wave started at 750 so we needed to be like 15 20 minutes down the road at the beach because we |
2:11.1 | were south of there getting picked up from a different dock and so we were like you need to go |
2:16.0 | get on the beach and like when the boat comes it'll come |
2:19.4 | and we'll like bomb up there hopefully as quickly as possible and meet you mid swim like during |
2:24.5 | his 30 minutes but the the rules are like if you don't pick up your swimmer like the boat or the |
2:30.2 | swimmer don't find each other within the first 30 minutes of the first person's leg you get picked up up by the safety boat. So we're like, oh my God, if you gets picked up by the safety boat, like, days over. We're not, we don't get to race. So sure enough, the pontoon boat shows up at 740. Kyle's going to get in the water at 750. And he's like, we have eight miles to go to Sand Harbor. and this thing goes 10 miles an hour. We were like, do the math. Like, this isn't going to work. Like, we're not going to make it in time in 30 minutes. But sure enough, we were just like, well, this is our only options. We just bombed up there at 10 miles an hour. And we were like the whole time we were like, he's going to get picked up by the safety boat. But like he's been in in the water. Like we're like we watch. We have his location because he put his phone in like his little buoy shared his location with somebody. And watch and we were just like trying to get as close as possible to his location on the map. Extra stress for no reason. It was so and I was going to be I was the second swimmer. So whole time i'm sitting there being like i might not race like chill in i'm like in my sweats thinking i don't i'm not going to do this like pretty bummed about it because it's been training but then also like not really like more worried about finding kyle like is he going to survive for 45 minutes in this water? Like, that sort of thing. Is he going to get picked up? |
3:41.1 | Like, what are we going to do? |
3:42.2 | And then sure enough, we, like, spot him in his little boo. |
3:44.6 | We were like, oh, my God, we were texting him because he had his Apple watch on. So we could see, like, keep. No, like, we were like, keep swimming. Like he literally at one point like because he'd been out he he swam for I think over 40 minutes |
