Summary

After Heidi Firkus was shot in the back killed during an early morning home invasion, the town of St. Paul, Minnesota was terrified that there could be a crazed killer on the loose. But her husband, Nick Firkus, was hiding secrets about financial fraud, and a foreclosure, in a case that took 13 years to get justice.

It was the early morning hours of April 25th, 2010.

25-year-old Heidi Furcus and her husband, 27-year-old Nicholas Furcus, were at their home on

Minnehaha Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota.

And then, shortly after 6 a.m., Nick woke Heidi up and told her he could hear someone downstairs

at the front door, someone who was trying to break into their house. Nick said that he and Heidi

decided to make a run for it. Nick grabbed his shotgun from the closet. Heidi called 911 from her

cell phone. 35 seconds into that call, the 911 operator can hear a loud sound, a gunshot.

And then the call with Heidi goes dead.

After her call was cut off, the 911 operator kept trying to call back.
