On November 1st, 2001, a man named Kent Heatholt was murdered in the parking lot of the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Kent worked at the Tribune as a sports editor and was last seen alive by a co-worker named Michael Boyd, who later told

police that they had a work-related conversation in the parking lot between 212 and

2.20 a.m. The 48-year-old had been beaten and then strangled to death and was discovered just

minutes after taking his final breath by a janitor who went outside for a smoke break.

According to that janitor, Shana Ornt,

there were two shadowy figures near Kent's car when she went outside,

one of whom yelled out,

someone's hurt out here, man, before walking off towards the nearby alley.

Shawna notified the other employees and 9-1-1 was

called at 2.26 a.m. While police recovered fingerprints on the inside of Kent's car, as well as
