This is the first episode of 2023. Happy New Year's everyone.

This episode is for Caleb Dare and for the given kids, Gertie, Posey, Tobiah and Willow,

who all wanted to hear the story of Dietrich Bonhoffer.

I'm going to tell his story and also the stories of several other heroes of the faith

in this time period.

In our episodes together, I've told you quite a few stories about the time period surrounding

World War II. I've told you about amazing battles and events and people of that war.

And I've told you about the super nasty dictator of Germany who wanted to spread his wickedness

everywhere he could. A lot of people were terrified of Hitler and for a good reason.

He had a way of making his enemies disappear. It took a lot of courage to stand up to him and

his evil plans to kill the Jewish people living in his country and in the countries that he took

over. Well, this episode is about some of the courageous people who gave their lives to stand

for freedom and truth, even when they knew they would probably be killed for it.

Although Hitler had been raised Catholic, he viewed and used religion as a political tool.

Rather than seeing religion as a way to have a personal relationship with God,

Hitler was far more interested in using it to manipulate people to do what he wanted.

There were those in the German Christian churches who believed that they should try to appease

the dictator by going along with what he said. However, there were also brave Christians
