You cannot blow off a subpoena in America.

You cannot sit on your couch and defy the people's representatives in Congress.

So we must enforce the rule of law here, my colleagues.

We must do it if you act deliberately with sneering, cavalier contempt for the American people

and their representatives.

We will hold you in contempt.

This congressman Jamie Raskin last week on the House floor, laying out exactly what's

at stake in the battle over Steve Bannon's refusal to testify before the select committee

investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Few members have done more to try to get to the bottom of what happened that day and punish

those who were responsible than Raskin, a Democrat from the Washington suburbs in Maryland,

who before being elected to Congress was a constitutional law professor.

He was Raskin who led the charge to impeach former President Trump over his role in inciting

the attack.

And now it is Raskin, as a member of the select committee, who is one of those spearheading

the effort to hold Bannon and anybody else tempted to defy the panel's subpoenas account.

But even if Raskin and the committee finally does get Bannon to testify, what would they

actually learn?

And what do they believe the committee's investigation might ultimately uncover?
