We begin today's show with my annual breakdown of the State of the Union Address.

It was a partisan speech that was deeply disunifying, typically dishonest, and not particularly entertaining, but quite important.

I do think it's important when the president speaks. So we break it all down for you,

play the key clips and hopefully give you some thought-provoking takes. Senator J.D. Vance is there.

He was in the room for his first day of the union in the chamber. We learn what his take is on the key

moments. I get his thoughts in the decorum of the Republicans in the audience, which I thought was pretty spot on.

And we also learned what he's been told about the China spy balloon.

Spoiler alert, not much as of yet.

But it's always good to get a sense of what JD is thinking about.

is a theatrical event. It is not a event that needs to happen. It is not an event that has any

meaningful, have any practical implications that are literal.

It is a show that the president gets to put on.

And in general, I'm fine with that.

I think it's entertaining.

And I think it's good to see where the brain is at of the president, see of the

Republicans who are in the opposition are reacting, see how the Democrats are reacting,

see what people's priorities are, what the

narratives are. And it was just very striking to me to see Joe Biden, the first octogenarian
