But before we get to her, we have to talk about the news

that Nicole Hannah Jones will be joining the faculty

at Howard University, along with Tanahisa Coates.

In case you missed it, after Nicole Hannah Jones declined the University of North Carolina

at Chapel Hill's tenure offer, she announced that she would instead join Howard University School of Communications

and launch the Center for Journalism and Democracy at Howard University.

This was after a misguided and arguably racist attempt to first deny her senior at University of North Carolina School of Journalism,

after being embarrassed and pressured into doing what they should have done from the beginning,

Chappahoe-Happell bladedly extended an offer in play themselves.

This was an obvious coup for President Wayne Frederick

and a huge win for HBCUs.

More importantly, this was a key lesson in knowing your worth and going where your value.

I'm an HBCU alum and I grew up in a HBCU town and my father was an HBCU president so I'm a little bit biased but I hope the parents

of prospective HBC students black academics and black higher education professionals

consider taking their talents to HBCUs. We all know that our
