Summary

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2:

  • Thomas Berry—research fellow in the Cato Institute’s Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies and editor‐in‐chief of the Cato Supreme Court Review—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss two major Supreme Court decisions: Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Tyler v. Hennepin County. In Tyler v. Hennepin, Berry submitted an amicus brief in support of 94-year-old Geraldine Tyler. In the case, Hennepin County, Minnesota seized Tyler’s home over $15,000 in unpaid taxes. However, the condo was valued at $40,000—far more than was owed. The court ruled that Hennepin County officials violated the Fifth Amendment’s “Takings Clause.”
  • While debating the debt ceiling from the House floor, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) asked, when was “the last time a person said…that the government does too much for them.”
  • While speaking with members of the press on Thursday, Rep. Pramila Jayapal said that Republicans and the media’s reporting is to blame for a new debt ceiling not yet being successfully negotiated.
  • Speaking with Laura Ingraham on Fox News following Ron DeSantis’ presidential announcement on Twitter Spaces, moderator—and former PayPal executive—David Sacks joked of the technical issues that plagued the announcement: DeSantis is so popular he “melted down Twitter’s servers.”
