John? John. Yeah. My worry there is your sort of condemning half the population. Well, it turns out if you look through British

scandal history, a lot of bad people look all John. A lot of wrong and John's. And today's story proves my point.

November 1974, Mexico City. John gazes out of the airplanes, tiny window.

Watches the terminal below get closer as the plane drops onto the tarmac. He checks his watch. He's got 10 minutes till his next flight.

He grabs his back, jumps to his feet. He's heading to the door when a stua desk stops him. Sir, please sit down till we've landed. He tries to push past. I've got another flight to catch.

But the stua desk doesn't move. He glances around. The other passengers glare at him from their seats. He sits down, checks his watch. He's timed everything to perfection.

His next flight will take him to Australia and to a new life as Joe Markham. He'll finally be able to walk away from his failing business, his declining political career and his fading marriage.

A few hours ago, he'd walked out of his hotel room in Miami. Swann up the coast to a disused hotel where he'd hidden a bag of dry clothes and his Joe Markham passport.

It's taken him two flights to get there. If he doesn't catch the next one, all his plans will unravel.

Well, I would say, build in a contingency, if not getting off the plane within a two-minute window makes the entire plan melt, then maybe let's have a few little protections in place.

His fingers tap nervously on his back as he waits for the stua desk to unlock the doors. As soon as they're open, he pushes past. He runs through the airport. His chest tightens, shows his ticket at the departure gate. A stua desk smiles at him.

I'm sorry, sir, that flight just left. He tries to catch his breath. It can't have. I need to be honest. She steps away. I'm sorry, sir. It's gone. His heart pounds. He paces, heads back to the desk. Buys a ticket to Los Angeles. Maybe he can catch a flight to Melbourne or Sydney from there.

This is starting to get a little bit messy, isn't it?

Four flights later, his body aches with exhaustion. His mind scrambles as he tries to work out which flight he's on. He looks at his ticket. He's on his way to San Francisco. He's been travelling for days and he's hardly got anywhere.

There isn't any very amusing. How has he messed it up that badly?

He gays his over at a family further up the aisle. A man his age is talking to his wife and teenage kids. He listens to them laugh as they share a joke. His heart clenches.

It suddenly hits him. Once he gets to Australia and starts his new life, he'll never see his wife or his three kids ever again.

He jumps to his feet, runs to the toilet. He grips the side of the sink, looks at his bloodless terrified face in the mirror, opens his mouth and screams.

He hears a suedeck knock on the door. Are you okay in there, sir?
