I am Mike Lupica, MLB.com, and the New York Daily News, and welcome to a very busy and kind of

wonderful Monday for the sports reporters podcast.

There is plenty of baseball to get to.

We'll get to a little college football at the end of this podcast.

But we start last night with the main event, Tom Brady returning to Foxborough to face his old

team with the defending Super Bowl champs.

And I'm not sure that this is the game that we expected, even in the rain.

But that's the beauty of sports, how unscripted it is.

Because at the end of the day,

the kid who has replaced Brady head quarterback did everything except win the game.

And I thought had a better game than Tom Brady did last night.

Rarely does a game this hyped up meet your expectations, let alone exceed them. I have to say that I so

enjoyed every minute of that game from the biblical rain that was falling on it that seemed to

cast it in that kind of a light to the doink of a kick that literally would have changed everything and missed by a foot.

I agree with you, Mike.

I thought that this was the coming out party for Mack Jones as much as it was for Tom Brady.

And while Tom Brady got the win, Mac Jones proved himself not only to be a potentially worthy successor to Brady, but the best of, at least for the moment, the best of all the quarterbacks who have been drafted in that amazing draft class, even though he was last.

He is further along than everybody, including Trevor Lawrence and and Tray Lance and all the

rest of them. And it was, it was a gutsy performance. I think it was Chris Collinsworth that said
