So something happened yesterday that we, I think all of us knew was going to happen eventually,

but it still sucks that it came to this because of health-related reasons.

T.J. O'Shi retires from the NHL after 16 seasons, over 1,000 regular season games,

10 seasons here with the Washington Capitals, 9 where he actually played.

He didn't play at all last season.

He was on the long-term IR.

So he held a press conference yesterday at the Georgetown Waterfront.

I believe seven years to the day that the boys were celebrating in the fountains after winning the Capitol's only Stanley Cup back in 2018.

So to my family, friends, coaches, trainers, teammates, fans into the game of hockey promise you this. The moment my skates touched the ice,

I gave you everything I had. With that, after 17 years in the NHL, I'd like to officially

announce my retirement.

Yeah, he was getting choked up throughout the speech.

I mean, he's a heart and soul guy.

Like that's been kind of his calling card throughout his career and especially during

his time here in Washington.

I mean, he's just a fan favorite.

There's nothing like it.

Just in terms of his smile, his enthusiasm for everything.

American player, too.

I think that's what stood out.
