Robert Lee Yates had been cruising around Spokane in his 1974 Chevy Corvette

when he was pulled over for failing to signal.

The officer seemed congenial enough.

In fact, he was barely concerned with Robert's traffic violation.

Instead, he took copious notes on Robert and his car

before wishing him a good night and sending him on his way.

Robert was blissfully unaware that the Spokane police were on the lookout for a Corvette like his in connection

with a string of recent murders. But the officer made a crucial mistake. Instead of Corvette,

he wrote Camaro and his report would never be seen by

detectives on the Spokane Killer case.

Robert Yates would go undetected for over a year and murder 11 more women before finally being caught.

The officer could not believe his mistake.
