Summary
When Mia was five, a closet door in her family’s new home began opening on its own—slowly, deliberately—before slamming shut as if something unseen lurked behind it. Years later, home alone at sixteen, she saw a blonde girl in a blue dress appear in her doorway. The girl met her eyes and whispered, “Get up, Mia.” Then vanished.
Elsewhere in Las Vegas, another family found their apartment locking itself, footsteps pacing above their second-floor ceiling, and a child speaking to an invisible man with bloody hands. When a perfume bottle hurled itself across the room, they finally fled.
And across the country, a middle-schooler awoke to the soft, familiar voice of her late grandmother—calmly reminding her it was 7:20 and time for school. The clock proved her right.
