| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Spawn Shunks, episode number 385 for Monday, January 19th, 26. |
| 0:12.7 | This is a podcast all about Minecraft, available across all major podcast platforms, |
| 0:16.2 | including a video version that goes out on YouTube and Spotify. |
| 0:20.0 | If you're enjoying the show, |
| 0:24.2 | consider subscribing wherever you're listening to this. My name is Johnny, but the intent knows me as Pixariffs, and joining me from a galaxy very, very near is Joel Duggan. Hi, Joel. |
| 0:29.6 | We are here. Welcome to our planet, I guess. We've been talking sci-fi, if you haven't guessed, |
| 0:36.3 | in the render distance, which is the extended version of the podcast that you get every week if you're a patron, check out patreon.com slash the Spon Chunks to support the show and get bonus content like that every week. We were talking about Stillfleet, which is a tabletop RPG set in a sci-fi universe, and three-body problem, which is a series based on books that's on Netflix right now I just finished the first season Johnny has also watched the first season and read the books so we're talking about that spoiler-free because we just think it's so good that you should just check it out and we didn't want to ruin that for anyone so those are the kind of things that we talk about on the render distance and if you're a patron you also get access to things like the monthly Minecraft hangout, which is where we hang out with our patrons and talk about what they've been doing in Minecraft. The next one of those is coming up on Saturday, January 31st. We also do a quarterly hangout where we talk about the downloads, the YouTube views, the different metrics behind the scenes on the podcast. And that should be happening in early February. And that's going to be a recap of Q4, as well as a recap of 2025 as a whole. |
| 1:33.8 | We're going to have to rewire our brains from all of this sci-fi talk to talk about fantasy |
| 1:37.6 | this time around, because while it's been a fairly short technical snapshot this week from |
| 1:43.2 | the Mojang team following up on last week's baby |
| 1:45.6 | mobs. It's been pretty quiet on the Minecraft front, so Joel and I have both been checking |
| 1:49.8 | out the early access release of Hightail this week, and we thought a cool discussion for the podcast |
| 1:54.2 | would be what Minecraft could learn from what Hightale does a little bit differently, and |
| 1:58.8 | conversely, how Hightail can learn from Minecraft. So we're going to get into that in our main discussion. But first of all, back to sci-fi briefly for a check-in with you, Joel. What's new on the mushroom island on the Citadel? I have been taking a page from your book, and I have been digging a hole as one does in Minecraft. Inevitably, you have to dig a hole somewhere. |
| 2:18.3 | And I mentioned last week that I was working on the designs of the power core that I want to put in the middle of the command center. |
| 2:24.3 | And I want that Star Wars vibe of being next to some really strange-looking pillar slash pit that you see in things like Cloud City, the Death Star. |
| 2:37.2 | I don't know if they have them on the actual starships, but like any kind of big base in Star Wars, |
| 2:42.2 | you tend to have these large pits for ventilation, I guess, whatever they are. |
| 2:47.5 | And I wanted to have something like that in the middle of my command center. |
| 2:50.8 | And in order to achieve the effect, which is that the center core kind of disappears into |
| 2:56.6 | perspective in the basement, you have to dig down far enough that you can't see the bottom of |
| 3:01.9 | the other wall when you're standing on the edge. And that means you really have to go down pretty |
