When was the last time you went to a live performance?

Maybe a concert or a Broadway show or just some kind of event that was a bit more special than just the average night.

Actually last night, my wife and I, we went to the symphony.

I know, it sounds fancy, right?

It was the Vourac's New World Symphony,

which is just a most beautiful piece. It's really incredible if you've never listened to it.

But it was a big to-do. Digging through my closet past all of the black t-shirts,

looking for my nicest truck tailors that didn't look like they had been

run in a marathon going out for a nightcap afterward it was such a wonderful break from the average

week nights and what i love is the build-up right the it, you know, you're getting there and grabbing your

tickets and the anticipation once you're finally in your seat, just waiting for the musicians

to take to the stage. The orchestra is tuning their instruments, the conductors flipping

through the score and the air, just buzzing with anticipation.

But then, then there's the moment.

Just a split second of complete silence before the very first note is played.

I absolutely love this part. There's actually a term for it, believe it or not. It's true. The moment of

silence is actually an integral part of the performance. So much so they've given it a name,

which is the preparatory silence. And it's meant to focus the musicians and the audience, which creates a space for the music

to really be heard. It's a pretty fascinating idea, to be honest. Last night had me thinking

all day to day about that pause, that little brief moment just before the very first note, how loud

the silence was.
