Summary

Shhh, you mustn't speak a peep. Our hosts are pacing the grounds at a monastery pondering the painful sound of silence. They wonder: "Why is the church so quiet, turning a blind eye to outrageously unbiblical issues? Why is there growing ambiguity on doctrine and confession within the Christian world?" The hosts discuss how the evangelical world has grown poor in voicing its beliefs, standing firm on Biblical principles, and seems conforming to the tolerant ideals of the world. Do we shrink from declaring the whole counsel of God? This isn't a question for just those standing behind the pulpit but also those sitting in the pews. The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals would like to offer a drawing for a free MP3 set! We have a few copies of "How Firm a Foundation," an MP3 set of messages from the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology that we would like to give away. You can enter the drawing here, or you can purchase a copy directly from the Alliance at ReformedResources.org.

Silence. At times, it can be a rare commodity, but when it comes from the church, at large, it can be extremely harmful for Christians.

0:40.3

When should pastors speak up about topical issues and what should they say?

0:44.8

Our hosts discuss it next.

Well, welcome to Mortification of Spin, speaking in slightly hushed tones today because Todd and I

1:03.1

decided to get a bit of rest and relaxation by coming to a trappist monastery in order to soak up the sound of silence.

1:12.4

Unfortunately, the plan hasn't quite worked out as we expected because somebody

1:16.1

tipped Amy off to the fact that we're here.

1:18.9

So, as you can imagine, the silence has been somewhat subverted, if not shattered, in the last few minutes.

1:25.3

But Todd, silence, always a good thing, surely. It's typically

1:29.8

a good thing. I mean, Amy came in shouting for room service. She didn't quite get the whole

1:33.9

monastery thing. So, and she wanted like fresh gardenias in her room or something, but we have

1:41.1

created a monster. We have created a monster. Exactly.

1:44.6

Now that she's on a podcast, she really thinks she's all that.

1:48.8

I'll just go find the wine cellar here and you guys can do the podcast.

1:52.1

She was nothing until we discovered her.

1:55.1

She was nothing.

1:56.1

That's right.

1:56.8

Well, listen, okay, so the talk of silence brings me to an interesting email that I received.

2:02.3
