In a Los Angeles courtroom, Meta and Google are accused of engineering addiction

to hook kids on their social media platforms.

They're saying that you'd intentionally designed your products to be harmful in this way

and keep users on there as long as possible.

Platforms like Instagram and YouTube accused of being harmful to children and designed to be addictive.

The now 20-year-old plaintiff alleging the apps targeted her as a minor with harmful and depressive content leading to self-harm.

This is the first trial of several coming this year.

To be precise, this is one of around 2,500 personal injury lawsuits being brought at the state level.

At the federal level, there are another 800 or so, as well as a slew of cases being brought by attorneys general and school

districts that claim they've experienced harm as a result of their students being addicted to
