1:13.9	So lock the doors and get out of sight,
1:18.9	because there's nothing quite as unnerving as The Smiling Man. About five years ago, I lived downtown in a major city in the U.S.
1:32.6	I've always been a night person, so I would often find myself bored after my roommate, who was decidedly not a night person, went to sleep.
1:41.3	To pass time, I used to go for a long walks and spend the time thinking. I spent four
1:47.1	years like that, walking alone at night, and never once had a reason to feel afraid. I always
1:53.6	used to joke with my roommates that even the drug dealers in the city were polite, but all of that
1:58.8	changed in just a few minutes of one evening. It was a Wednesday,
2:04.1	somewhere between one and two in the morning, and I was walking near a police-patrolled park
2:08.1	quite a ways from my apartment. It was a quiet night, even for a weeknight, with very little
2:14.3	traffic and almost no one on foot.
2:20.8	The park, as it was most nights, was completely empty.
2:26.6	I turned down a short side street in order to loop back to my apartment when I first noticed him.
