Summary
'Evil' women are everywhere, from on our screens, to between the pages of the books we read, and across our feeds in the form of memes. The discourse as to whether these characters are idol worthy, or in fact just rationalising our worst behaviours, is a conversation that has the internet torn. So we're getting into it!
In this first instalment of our toxic women two-parter, we're exploring the reasons we love these depictions of femininity. From why these characters feel more real than those across other genres, how we confuse 'messy' with 'evil', and how, even today, only a certain type of woman is afforded messiness.

| 0:02.7 | And hello to the listeners. Welcome to the Polyester podcast. I'm Iioni, the founding editor-in-chief of Polyester Online in Prid and everywhere else. And I'm Halima, the community editor at Polyester Scene and co-host of Polyester Podcast. This week, we have a sleepover club episode where Helima and I have all those gorgeous conversations you'd usually have at a sleepover with your friends. And soon enough, we will have an obsessions episode for you where we speak to someone, Weimire, about something they're obsessed with that has nothing to do with how they generate their income. Before we get started today, I'd like to say thank you for all of your indie sleeves photos. I feel like my entire Instagram has been taken over by indie sleeves |
| 0:38.3 | this week. I feel a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. I feel like we opened Aladdin's lamp. Is it Aladdin's |
| 0:44.0 | lamp? Whose lamp is it? I don't know. A genie's lamp. Jeannie's lamp, yeah. I feel like we opened that |
| 0:49.6 | lamp and now it can't get put back and I'm not sure what we've done. |
| 0:55.4 | But thank you. |
| 0:56.6 | Please keep showing them to me. |
| 1:00.8 | And we can all keep experiencing this collective regression together. |

| 1:13.8 | We have worked with some amazing brands before and this year we would like to widen our scope. |
| 1:19.0 | So if you are interested in working with us and keeping the polyester podcast alive, |
| 1:23.7 | there is a little Google form in the episode notes and we would love to hear from you. |
| 1:28.5 | So Halima, what are we talking about today, love? |
| 1:32.9 | We're talking about evil slash messy women because I think they get lumped together. |
| 1:37.4 | Oh, but you think there's a distinction. |
| 1:40.3 | Okay, so today we're talking about the rise of evil women on screen, but also our kind of like collective reaction to that and the different reactions to that. |
| 1:54.4 | This is going to be a two-part episode because we are very passionate about this. |
| 2:00.2 | We're kind of structuring it like for and against, |
| 2:02.8 | even though, you know, we'll see how that goes. |
| 2:05.3 | It's nuanced. |
