It's got a horde of bloodthirsty and inconsiderate suitors waiting to slaughter the master of the house and his son the moment they return home.

It's got a faithful nursemaid who recognizes the baby she held in her lap even when he comes

back disguised as an old man. It's got a loving wife who's been waiting at the loom for

20 years for her beloved husband to at last return. It's Ithaca, New York's hottest club.

You guys remember that bit?

This is from back when Saturday Night Live was funny.

They had a recurring character, Stefan, who would come on and talk about New York's hottest

club and it always got more and more deranged as he went on.

And I kind of feel that way about the sections of the Odyssey we're going through now

because we've been waiting

for a long time for Odysseus to get home and the main part of the story that we all remember

has already happened, this grueling adventure from place to place, island to island, monster

to monster witches and nymphs and sirens and all sorts of trials and tribulations.

And now he comes back home and it's like there's a whole series of books left.

There's just a bunch of adventures still to come in Ithaca.

And we've been talking about them and how they all help Odysseus to return,

reintegrate into society over the last several weeks.
