Summary

The silent treatment isn't a timeout, it's a punishment. If you've ever been left wondering what you did wrong while someone completely freezes you out, this podcast is for you. We’re breaking down the psychology behind the shutdown, why they choose to withhold, and how to reclaim your power from the silence. I think we can say we've dealt with this and depending on the person and how far this goes will determine what you do next.  Thanks for listening!   www.StephanieLynLifeCoaching.com   Find us on YouTube Channel: www.YouTube.com/StephanieLynCoaching   👉 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stephanielyncoach 👉 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephanielyncoaching 👉 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@stephanielyncoaching

0:13.9

after all the years of me doing this, every time I talk about a topic, it's something that I've

0:19.3

struggled with, first off. And, you know, some topics, they've gotten easier over the years. I mean, hell, I do this for a living. But it's still difficult to handle, to deal with difficult people. You know, it doesn't matter who it is. It could be an ex. It could be a family member. It could be a parent. It could be a friend. It could be a

coworker. It's just because you're faced with different people throughout the course of your life, right?

0:43.5

So you might have had dealt with like a difficult person years ago and now it's like this person.

0:48.6

Maybe they're not as difficult. Maybe they're more difficult. Who knows? I think it's just like

0:52.7

such important lessons and

0:55.1

like skills that we're trying to learn in order to manage ourselves around these people because

0:59.5

we can't just like not be around certain people. And how do we protect our energy? How do we

1:06.2

try to understand this person a little better? For me, if I understand why this person's doing what they're doing, it kind of, it helps

1:14.3

me to not take it personally and it helps me to have more control when I am kind of going

1:19.1

toe to toe to this person and having a conversation.

1:21.8

But it's serious work to like hold on to yourself, to not be reactive, to just like respond.

1:26.2

I mean, these are not easy skills to do

1:29.0

depending on also like who the person is that you're dealing with. You know, you could be dealing

1:33.3

with someone that you work with and that person doesn't trigger you as much. But maybe your sister,

1:38.4

she just drives you insane and knows exactly what to do to get under your skin. So let's talk about

1:43.6

the silent treatment and why people do this.

1:48.0

Because it's such a defense mechanism and it's something that I think a lot of people do.

1:54.0

There's different defense mechanisms that people will do that are just like more predominant than others.

2:00.0

You just see it more often than you do
