On today's episode, we're going to talk about something called the Silent Nemesis or UTI or urinary tract infections.

If you have a loved one who's dealing with dementia or memory care issues, you may have

noticed that having a urinary tract infection or a UTI can have a worse effect on them

than if a healthy person contracts a UTI.

UTIs have a tendency to affect loved ones with dementia a lot differently, making behavior

changes much more pronounced rather than just the typical physical changes.

And understanding and knowing how a UTI can affect a senior with dementia differently can

help in getting your loved one the treatment that they need sooner to help prevent the infection

from continuing to spread and leading to more serious health consequences.

If you haven't seen how dramatic the changes can be in a person with dementia who has developed a UTI,

it can be best described as almost being in a delirium-like state.

Their symptoms that they display under normal circumstances with their dementia can be dramatically

exasperated if they developed a UTI.

And most of the time, a family will notice an increase in confusion and the symptoms that

they have previously had not displayed with their dementia or their typical characteristic

behavior has changed from its norm to something that's a telltale sign that they've developed
