Thousands of Sudanese are on the streets to protest against a military takeover.

Internet and mobile phone connectivity has been shut down.

But pro-democracy groups have been mobilising people in neighbourhoods to come out in large numbers.

Privately owned websites have not posted any news since last night.

The information ministry has confirmed that several civilian leaders have been arrested by armed forces.

In this series we are investigating why governments shut down the internet and hearing from the people affected.

We are following the work of Felicia and Sonio, a campaigner for the digital rights organisation access now.

From her home in Ghana, Felicia monitors internet shutdowns as they occur.

Can you tell me what has your day been like?

When did you first realise that something is happening?

I'm John.

Today I got a message from one of my contacts in Sudan saying that there was a military coup

and the internet will be shut down.

And that was it.

And I tried reaching him again.
