I'm not sure if you're familiar with the story of Jim and Elizabeth Elliot, but if you're not you might want to read up on

them because they are incredibly faithful Christians and have a really inspiring story.

Jim Meliet graduated from Wheaton College in the 1950s and he along with some of his

buddies went to Ecuador to share the gospel with a tribe of Aaka Indians.

Now the Aaka Indians never really had contact with outsiders,

and whenever they did have some kind of contact with them,

the Indians ended up killing the outsiders.

And that's eventually what happened to Jim Elliot and his buddies.

Thinking that they were making progress and taking the gospel to this tribe,

they were all eventually killed for their faith.

His wife Elizabeth wrote a book about that experience and she called the book the

Shadow of the Almighty.

Now that title, The Shadow of Almighty,

is taken from Psalm 91.

It's one of my all-time favorite Psalms.

Here's how it starts.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord he is my refuge in my fortress, my God in whom I trust.

Surely he will save you from the Fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.

The Fowler's snare is a trap that a bird hunter might use and in this Psalm it is being used metaphorically.
