Welcome back to another episode of five minutes in church history. On this

episode we're going to be returning to a good old friend of ours, Jonathan Edwards.

On August 16th, 1751, Jonathan Edwards was invited to give a sermon on a special occasion.

Now this is quite a special occasion, It was the signing of a treaty between the Mohawk Indians

and the colony of Massachusetts. You can picture it, can't you, in your mind? All of the

the governor is there there members of the

Massachusetts Assembly are there a number of ministers are there and also these

Mohawk chiefs are there and Mohawk Indians and there's Jonathan Edwards.

There was a number of speeches that were given, the governor gave a speech and others gave a speech,

but the highlight of the moment was for Edwards's sermon.

And so Edwards stands up and he says, these honorable gentlemen treat or come in the name of

King George, but I in the name of Jesus Christ.

And then Edwards proceeds right to his text.

2 Peter, chapter 1, verse 19.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy. Where unto you do well that you take heed

as unto a light that shines in a dark place until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts.

As Edwards begins his sermon, he unfolds basically with a history of redemption.
