Summary

There's some crazy stat -- 80% of people fail to achieve their New Years resolutions. Yet here we are, back to reflecting on how the past year has gone and what we'd like to do different.

Honestly, I love this time of year. Reflection & pausing is a way to have stamina. It's a necessary part of learning from our past. After all, you can only connect the dots looking backwards. If we never lift our head, it’s easy to miss the signals that we might need to course correct. But change is hard. That's why I'm a firm believer in not just focusing on the goal, but the behaviors you will need to do or change to get there.

If you've been following me for awhile, you've heard me talk before about how I track 10 habits every day. In this episode, I take a deeper dive into those habits, and how I take stock in what went well, what didn't go so well, and what I need to change to achieve my new goals in 2018.

In this episode:

  • I share a series of simple questions I ask myself as I look back, including the obvious what went well, what didn't go well, but also evaluating my clients, my relationships, and more
  • Goals are great, but the secret to success are your daily habits.
  • It's not about perfections, it's about progress. I share how a few of my goals this year and my process for tracking and measuring my progress.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Trevor's Live show here on Creative Live. I am honored to be in your ears. As I always am,

0:13.1

my favorite thing to do is record the podcast for you and today's show. We're going to talk about

0:18.2

reflection because it's an important time of year we are ending

0:22.5

the calendar year which if you're anything like me and 99% of the people that I run around with

0:29.0

whether you're into it seriously or you just pretend or some way shape or form you are commenting

0:37.1

about what you did and didn't do, what goals

0:39.9

you met or did not meet in the previous calendar year, and what you're going to do different

0:44.4

for the coming year. And I like this time of year in part because of this moment, but I got to

0:51.6

add some extra context why. It's widely known that most people make,

0:57.3

quote, new year's resolutions, end quote, and botch it. There's something there's some stats

1:03.0

that say, like within two weeks or something like that. Some huge percentage of people have

1:07.8

already coughed up, rolled over, given up on their dreams for the

1:11.1

coming year. That's not the way I roll. And you know what? I think one of the reasons you

1:16.7

listen to this podcast is because you don't want to roll that way either. And so what I'm trying to

1:23.0

do in this show, and I want to reference a show that we did a year ago, basically the same week

1:27.0

a year ago, it was around habits. And I want to reference a show that we did a year ago, basically the same week a year ago, it was around habits. And it was a reflection on seven daily habits that I do

1:33.9

to rock it. And a short URL, if you want to go back and listen to that, it's got a short

1:40.8

URL called CR8.LV slash seven habits.

1:46.2

And that talked a lot about reflection.

1:48.4

And when I relisten to that, as I usually do a couple times during the year, when I get

1:53.7

into a funk, I go back and listen to my own work, try and eat my own medicine.
