| 0:42.1 | All right, without further delay. Here's the first question. This is from Julian Brandgold. |
| 0:47.4 | I'm a visual artist. I make abstract paintings. I have days where I see my work and feel proud and have the feeling it's going to be super successful. |
| 0:54.6 | And other days where I see it and think it's shit, I can't help but doubt myself half the time. |
| 0:59.7 | How can I work against imposter syndrome when I'm objectively already good at what I do, but have days where I can't believe in myself and days where I do? |
| 1:07.2 | So I think that everybody has days where they struggle with whether or not they're going to be able to pull off their dream, whether they are an imposter, whether they're actually good or talented. |
| 1:17.5 | And the important thing that I do in those moments is I remind myself that if I'm having that moment of crisis and maybe I'm right, maybe I'm really not good. |
| 1:27.5 | Well, the answer is maybe I'm not good yet. And as long as I remember that even if what I'm finally realizing is the truth that I'm not yet a good painter or a good business person, a good whatever it is that you're struggling with, |
| 1:40.3 | well, the reality is I can get good. And so it's really about if there's a skill that I'm missing that I can go out and acquire that skill and I'm going to have to put in the work, but I've gotten as far as I've gotten in life, |
| 1:50.8 | being bad at whatever it is that I'm worried about. And I need to remember that at any time if I want to apply more energy into getting good at that thing that I can. |
| 1:58.8 | And the only thing that's damaging, especially for an artist is when you think it is a permanent state of affairs that you're not good at something. |
| 2:07.6 | If you remember, remind yourself, repeat in your head over and over and over and over and over relentlessly that you can get good. |
| 2:19.6 | So even if you're not, that's not a decence. And that's where people really get hung up is they are so convinced that this realization that they're not good is somehow bad or devastating. |
| 2:32.6 | It's simply a reminder that you can get good. So I wouldn't worry about it. On the days you're feeling good, go kill it, crush it, lead with that confidence, let it really help you create your best art. |
| 2:44.6 | But on the days we were not feeling confident, just remind yourself that maybe you really aren't that good and it doesn't matter because you can get good. |
| 2:50.6 | So just put all of that energy into improving into practicing and don't think of it as some permanent state that means that you should quit or give up. |
| 2:58.6 | That's when you quit and give up that you're going to go into the desk spiral because not doing it, not pushing yourself, not getting better, not even getting the bad stuff out there is how you hold yourself back. |
