Whenever she reached that line on her to-do list, she skipped over it in favor of a different

chore. It wasn't that she didn't want to get it done. It was just that she didn't think it would

be very exciting. Cat always preferred to do something interesting rather than poke around in an

old closet, but she'd put it off for too long. It was time to get to it and clean out the boxes.

She rubbed her hands together and, with a determined look in her eye,

pulled open the closet door. The cardboard box on top was filled with old notebooks from her days

at school. Using her fingertips, she flipped through page after page of biology notes and

reflections on history texts. She laughed quietly to herself. Remembering all those hours spent

with her classmates, wondering when the next stage of life would begin. And here she was now,

wondering how the time had passed so quickly. She picked out a few sentimental pieces and put the

rest aside. The next box had some old clothes. She found a few band t-shirts she picked up at a

handful of concerts, and some others from various events she'd been to over the years. Cat thought

it might be nice to make a quilt out of the ones she particularly liked, but that would be a project

for another day. She moved on to the third box, and then the fourth, until finally the end was inside.

With a sigh, Cat stepped back with her hands on her hips. For a moment, she surveyed her work.

It felt good to know she could now check this off her list and never have to do it again.

She was content with this small accomplishment. As she peered into the now empty closet,
