In the Catalina foothills, just outside of Tucson, Arizona,

84-year-old Nancy Guthrie lives alone, but she does have family nearby. Her daughter Annie and her husband live about 10 minutes away.

Nancy's other daughter is Savannah Guthrie, host of the Today Show and former Court TV correspondent.

On Saturday, January 31st,

Nancy was dropped off at home by her son-in-law

at about 9.30 at night at her home.

Between that time and Sunday morning

when she was supposed to go to church,

something terrible happened inside her home.

Nancy's family was alerted by folks at the church that Nancy wasn't there.

Then when the family went to Nancy's home, they couldn't find her. They searched for about an hour,

and by 11 a.m. they called police. And almost immediately, it was clear to investigators that a crime

had been committed, that Nancy had been taken forcefully from her home.

Blood was found outside the front door. So while all this began as a missing person search, the homicide squad was quickly brought in to work the case.
