Hi, everybody. Welcome to the scoop. Hope you're off to a great start to your week. It is the week that so many have been waiting for. The week of the midterm elections, you know, I don't like to just have tunnel vision on anyone's story. But this week, we are going to focus on the midterms, which is an

0:22.2

all-encompassing event. Yes, we'll have election day on Tuesday, but we will be covering this

0:27.7

story, I'm sure of it all week. And so we have a great little guide for you, just talking about

0:33.3

what to know with the midterm elections, a couple races to watch that I hope give you a little

0:37.4

bit of like a contrarian perspective on some of the races you're probably hearing a lot about. And I want to talk to you a little bit about what's happening behind the scenes at so many different networks. This is an exciting time to be in news. You know, rarely do you know when a big news story hits. And we know when the midterms are going to happen. So there's a lot of

0:54.6

excitement. There's a lot of technology involved in doing these broadcasts to deliver election

1:00.3

news to the American public and really all over the world. And so I want to give you a little bit

1:04.0

of behind the scenes about what that's like a little bit later on in our program. But before I

1:08.5

get started into the midterms, I actually got a good dose of reality. And, you know, it's really important, I think, to step outside of the journalism

1:17.4

world and the media world is one of the things I appreciate about smarter news.

1:21.3

When you're not in a studio every single day tied to the 24-hour news cycle in a big corporation, it does allow you to experience life in a little bit of a different way that adds perspective to how we're doing our reporting. And so I got a big dose of that last night. Everyone was fine in our household. We had a bunch of respiratory infections over the last several weeks. You might hear it in my voice. I'm feeling a little bit under the weather. It doesn't count, though, when it happens to moms. It's one individual in the house. It doesn't count for it.

1:49.3

But everybody at the house has had a respiratory infection of some sort, but everyone's feeling

1:52.8

great. My littlest one goes to bed, totally fine, and then wakes up about an hour and

1:57.6

half into sleep, screaming, and clearly has an ear infection and is up like

2:02.7

every hour. He's had infections before, but usually I'm able to get him back to sleep with a

2:08.8

little bit of Motrin or something. This was not the case this time. And sure enough,

2:13.4

we brought him to the pediatrician, 8 o'clock this morning, two raging ear infections,

2:17.5

and probably just a leftover from this respiratory viruses that have been kind of being passed around.

2:22.6

Luckily, he hasn't been too sick, but this is one of the things that came of it.

2:26.2

So we went to get the prescription for the antibiotic that he's going to take for his ear infection,

2:31.5

and our pharmacies all out of amoxicillin. And I remember last week,

2:36.1

one of the stories that our team was talking about is an amoxicillin shortage, a concern about it.
