Summary

Tonight’s guest, Dave, is from Mountain Iron, Minnesota but he had his sighting in Stillwater, Minnesota, in 1992. He was on a family hunting trip when he had his sighting. He and his family members were deer hunting on land that he and his family would travel to every year, like a tradition. The land was near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. There were lots of rolling hills and beautiful scenery there. When Dave had his sighting, he was on a ridgetop, hunting out of a 16-foot-tall ladder stand. A short time after climbing into his stand, he saw a pickup drive into view with around 8 men in its bed. Dave knew the men were getting ready to do what’s called a drive, where they would spread out a walk through the woods, in an attempt to drive deer toward hunters who were lying in wait, up ahead. When the truck had driven about a half mile across a clearing Dave was by, he started to hear footsteps coming from the bottom of the hill he was sitting on top of. It didn’t sound like a deer moving through the forest. It sounded different than that. That left Dave puzzled for a short time until he saw what had been walking below him…

0:09.0	In 1992, I was living with my family in Stillwater, Minnesota.
0:15.0	And it was a family hunting trip that weekend.
0:19.0	There was me and my dad, my uncle, and one of my cousins
0:25.1	were all up there. It was land that my family had a tradition of going back to every year
0:30.7	near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The local paper company owns an 11,000 acre piece there.
0:39.5	It's all beautiful rolling hills, lots of hardwood trees, just a beautiful tranquil
0:46.3	setting for a fall day.
0:49.5	It was an eventful morning.
0:53.1	I didn't see any deer.
0:59.5	And then about 9.30 in the morning, I could see across a clear cut at the bottom of the hill. I was up on a ridgetop in a 16-foot ladder stand,
1:07.1	deer hunting. And I could see a pickup truck about a mile away starting to come down a logging road
1:14.0	again at the bottom of the hill this was a fresh cool cut that they had logged off and
1:20.4	so uh I could see the pickup truck coming in the box of the pickup truck had about eight guys in there
1:28.1	looking like they were going to do what's known as a deer drive where a whole group of guys
1:34.2	will get out in one location spread out and then walk through the woods to some other people
1:40.8	that are standing waiting for the deer to come running out of the woods.
1:49.1	Well, they got about halfway across the clearing that I could see, so they were maybe a half mile at the most away.
1:52.7	And down below the bottom of the hill, I couldn't see the very bottom of the hill where I was
1:57.8	sitting, but I could hear a noise that wasn't like deer walking.
2:04.6	It was definitely something that seemed heavier.
