Welcome to another episode in our series about stories from the Sahaba.

Today's story is one of my favorite stories.

It deals with the famous Sahabi Thumama Ibn Uthal,

Radi Allahiore.

...you-thulli, and, yeah, Radi Allah Te'a'anhu.

Before we begin his story, just a brief background.

As we're aware, the Arabian Peninsula was divided into a number of provinces,

and the Prophet, Sallulah, a Prophet, Sallu, a province of Hijad, which is Macca and Medina.

And a neighboring province was the province of Yamama. Today, Yamama is basically what is called Southern Najd. So, for example, the capital of the kingdom Riyadh is in a part of Yamama.

And Yamama at that time was known, and it still is, by the way, for producing quite a lot

of agriculture, even animals and farms.

There are regions of Yamama that are actually quite fertile and green because it is

a higher climate, it has better rainfall, and so there are portions

of Yamama that actually produce wheat and grain. And in the time of Jahiliya, Yamama was the

main area in which the people of Makka would be able to purchase wheat and even purchase

animal products that would be exported from Yamama to the city of

Makkah. And Yamama had a number of prominent tribes. The largest of it was the Banu Hanifa.

By the way, the famous or the infamous Musaylam al-Kathab is also from the Banu Hanifa. But of course
