The Genesis of the Sagrata Familia dates back to 1872 with a bookkeeper named

Joseph Maria Bookabella. He took a trip to Italy

and became enamored with the Basilica of Loreto. He wanted Barcelona to have a

great church too. He began fundraising, and in 1882, construction began on the church
