I'm Hello and welcome to the history of Vikings.

Today we'll be discussing one of the Icelandic saga's most famous and dramatic characters.

Egyll Scala Grimson, the Viking Age poet and warrior who is best known as being the protagonist in Egil's saga.

I'm so pleased to be joined today by Dr. Torfi Tallinius, professor of medieval Icelandic studies in the School of Humanities

at the University of Iceland. Dr. Tallinius, thank you so much for joining me today.

Well, thank you for inviting me. It's a pleasure. Well, it's absolutely a pleasure to have you.

You're welcome. Well, when discussing the Icelandic sagas, it seems that Egyl saga is something

people are very excited about. But when compared to all of the other Icelandic sagas, it seems that Egyl Saga is something people are very excited about. But when compared

to all of the other Icelandic sagas, is there anything notable that is different or special about

Eggles? Well, there are so many things that one could mention concerning Eil-Saga, as I prefer to pronounce

it. But first, it's just the character of Egyz, or Egyl, Eyltl, as I will pronounce it,

which is the modern Icelandic pronunciation.

He is such a larger-than-life character.

He is huge.

He is extremely ugly.

He is a fierce warrior, he is greedy, and he is sometimes quite

underhanded in his dealings with all kinds of people, but at the same time he has the sympathy

of the reader all the time and the narrator follows him in the large

parts of the saga where he is the main character and he expresses a wide variety of feelings
