0:24.2	listeners and many of you, if you've been following the podcast for the past two or three years,

0:38.2	here's today's. When I decided to take the intellectual aspect of my spiritual beliefs more seriously,
0:55.0	it left some of my Christian friends scratching their heads.
0:58.0	My newly acquired love of learning landed me on the receiving end of comments like,
1:03.0	don't let your head get in the way of your heart.
1:05.0	And I don't need to study because I have faith.
1:08.0	And be careful not to study too much because knowledge puffs up, 1st Corinthians 81.
1:16.0	As well intended as these comments may have been, they appear to reflect the anti-intellectualism
1:21.7	that has saturated American culture and seeped over into the church.
1:26.1	In an article aptly titled Burning Hearts Are Not Nourished by Empty Heads, R.C. Sproll wrote,
1:33.0	We live in what may be the most anti-intellectual period in the history of Western civilization.
1:39.0	Secular culture has embraced a kind of impressionism that threatens to turn all our brains into mush,
1:45.0	and the evangelical world has followed suit developing an allergy to all things intellectual.

1:53.0	With Christians founding Ivy League Universities such as Harvard and Princeton
