0:24.2	listeners and many of you, if you've been following the podcast for the past two or three years,
0:29.5	have not heard these posts and these are short answers to tough theological and apologetics
0:34.6	questions so we're going to be bringing a new one to you every day during sabbatical
0:38.2	here's today's. Progressive Christian blogger and author John Pavlovitz wrote,
0:53.2	we believe that social justice is the heart of the gospel.
0:56.8	Is he right?
0:57.7	And what exactly is social justice? I recently posted an article in which I described Progressive Christian churches as
1:11.7	swapping out the gospel for social justice.
1:14.3	I got a lot of pushback on this point, but I believe that most of this pushback
1:18.4	comes down to a misunderstanding of words. Some are quick to say social justice is good or social justice
1:26.2	is bad without giving any nuanced thought to what the phrase actually means.
1:30.6	Recently I listened to a mortification of spin podcast
1:34.3	episode called hijacking social justice that brilliantly dove into the
1:38.6	history and meaning of the phrase and how it interacts with the gospel. It inspired this article and I highly
1:44.4	recommend listening to it. What is social justice? Justice is a strong and
1:50.3	consistent theme throughout scripture, both in the old and New
1:53.4	Testaments. It's clear that God loves justice and we ought to care about it too.
