This is the Guardian.

Today, a meeting outside of Moscow train station,

an array of voices of descent from inside Vladimir Putin's army.

A few weeks ago, I got a call later on a Saturday afternoon from a guy who said that he wanted to meet

me and that he was ready to meet me somewhere near the Belaruska train station in the center of Moscow.

So, I grabbed the cab to get over there as quickly as I could.

We didn't have a specific place to meet except that he said that he was going to be wearing all black

and he would have a big black backpack.

And I told him that I was going to be wearing what I had on jeans and a button-down shirt.

We both stood there for about five minutes until I looked over and I saw the person that I was waiting for.

He's a guy about my age, mid-30s.

Shortly, Kroptehr is pretty big, pretty strong looking.

His name is Pablo Filatov and he was a former paratrooper with the Russian army,

who at that moment was more or less on the run.

And what he said before I got there was that he wanted to find a place

near the train station with not too many people around so that he could tell his story.

Sort of a very nervous few minutes as we were walking toward this

discafe on the street that I thought might be a good place to sit with him.

It was getting pretty close to sunset.

Pablo was very nervous about meeting a journalist for the first time, especially

somebody who was from a western publication.
