I'm Louis Adaggo, and today I'm taking you back

to one of the defining moments of the 20th century,

the Russian Revolution of 1917.

On the 7th of 1917.

On the 7th of November,

Bolshevik revolutionaries overthrew the provisional government

set up in Russia after the fall of the Tsar earlier that year

and created the world's first communist state, a state that would become the Soviet Union.

I've been listening back to eyewitness accounts of that tumultuous time.

At Petrograd's naval base of Kronstadt in October 17,

the crew was turned against authority and set in motion the

ten days revolt that shook the world days of sunset for the old Russia.
