On May 2nd, 2013, a young woman was seen for the last time, a woman who kindly let a man

into her home and lost her life because of it. So if you like your coffee hot, but your bones chilled,

sit back and start your day with a morning cup of murder. Maribel Manrique Ramos was born in Mexico, but as a baby, moved to the United States with her

extremely tight-knit family.

Those who knew her described Maribel as a friendly young woman, who was always kind to others.

With a dream of becoming a police officer, after high school, Maribel joined the security team

at a local Kmart, and in 2001, joined the U.S. Army. She was deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan,

and was honorably discharged in 2009. Upon returning, Maribel began studying criminal justice

at the California State University Fullerton,

moved into an apartment in Orange with her mother, and stayed there with her until her mother's

tragic passing. The apartment was now empty, and Maribel was looking for a roommate.

It was a decision that unknowingly caused this beautiful, vibrant woman

her life. Posting an advertisement on Craigslist, something that was incredibly common at the time,

Maribel soon met with a man named Quang Choi Joy. Called KC. by those who knew him, Quang was a Korean

immigrant from Knoxville, Tennessee,

who said he was applying for a job in Huntington Beach, which is why he needed to move to California
